Leafs defenceman Stéphane Robidas spoke with the media on Monday during the team's day away from the ice. Here's what he had to say...
On if he has ever had a 12 hit game before Sunday:
No, I don't remember that (happening).
On if it felt like a 12 hit game against LA:
No, not really. I know whenever you play those big Western Conference teams it's a big, physical battle. I didn't think I had 12 hits.
On if he's hitting his stride:
I feel more comfortable, I feel comfortable with the system and comfortable with the guys I'm playing with. The timing and everything is coming back. I think there is room for improvement still in my game. I want to get better and keep growing my game.
On the 9-2 loss as a turning point:
It's kind of funny because after that 9-2 loss we talked a little bit but there's not much to be said after a loss like that. You can talk about whatever you want, you can say all the right things but in the end you've got to go out on the ice and do it. I think we realized we weren't doing the right things and we got away from our system and a lot of little things we were doing early in the year. We just went back to basics and for us we decided we needed to cut down the shots against. That was one of the big things to play the right way and that's when we focused on playing really good D first and doing the little things right. We're a team that can score goals but we've got to defend well. There's still room for improvement, we've been doing a lot of good things but we can keep growing and the positive thing is I feel we're building and moving in the right direction.
On if there have been enough reminders to prevent the team from getting comfortable:
You've got to play the same way all the time. You look at a team like the Kings, you know exactly what you're going to get every night from them, they have their own identity, they play the same way, they play the right way. For us, that's what we need to get to. We've got to keep building. You're not going to win every game, that's for sure, but whenever you play the right way you give yourself a chance to win hockey games and that's what we're looking for.
On playing his former team:
It's going to be another big battle, they're a pretty similar team to the LA Kings. They have big, strong forwards with lots of skill. It's going to be a tough matchup for us for sure.
On the Mumps:
I've never seen anything like that. For us here we're taking all of the precautions for what's out there but it's serious stuff.
