First, start with the goal. When you score just once in 65 games, it tends to stick in your mind.

“We had an away game with Calgary at the start of the year,” he said. “They put me on the power play and tried to get me a goal. It worked."

For the defensive defenceman, the message was clear enough. The Ice got Neibrandt his goal. He would be responsible for anymore to come.

“Yeah, I’m working on that.  I’m not known for my goalscoring, I guess".

Neibrandt agrees that there is every rangy defenceman, a gunner dying to get out.

“Back when I was five-11, I was a goalscorer in bantam hockey. I got 16 goals in one year and I had fun scoring those goals. Then my body turned into a defenceman’s body.”

“I will always remember my goals but I don’t think I will member all the hits. If I was a  goalscorer I might remember all the hits.”
