Here's a sampling of what the Maple Leafs had to say following a 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.
I thought we did lots of good things. Obviously we didn’t score, we gave up a power play goal late which I didn’t like. I didn’t think we gave up much on the power play tonight, but we were in the contest. But I think when you look at our team, you look at our record, we’ve been in tons of one-goal games and come up on the short-end.
Brooks Laich on the tribute he received in-arena
First off, very thankful for the organization (Washington Capitals). What they did meant a lot to me and for the fans that stood up and clapped – a million thanks and a million more. Very classy what they did and very appreciative on my part.
It was a great play by Holly (Peter Holland). I know he just drove down the boards and brought the Washington players with him. It created a lot of space for me and gave me a lane to shoot it. I give a lot of props to Holland on that.
Off the start I don’t think we were at the top of our game. I think we were working hard, but were a bit sloppy. But once the game got going we kind of got into things. It took us a little while, but happy with the way we competed. I mean that’s a team that has the most points in the league and we felt like we had a chance to win that game.
