Here's a sampling of what the Leafs had to say following a 4-0 loss in Ottawa on Saturday night.
I didn’t think we were competitive enough. I thought they were ready to go in the first period and obviously the first two shifts of the second and the third. Naz’s (Kadri’s) line wasn’t good enough. The other unit there across from them outplayed them badly and in the end that was the game. We didn’t execute as good as I’d like in the ‘D’ zone. I didn’t think we gave up a ton but what we did is we made three big mistakes for glorious chances and they were able to capitalize, and I didn’t think we made it very hard on Anderson at all.
The power play couldn’t get going. We struggled there. I think we, at times, had too many turnovers. We wanted to get the in, work them down low, go east-west but we didn’t get a chance to do that because of too many turnovers. They did a good job too. You’ve got to give them some credit but as a team we’ve got to do a better job of getting pucks in, playing our game down low and trying to create things off the cycle. Tonight there was just too much back and forth.
Obviously the first period wasn’t good enough. Nowhere near good enough actually. The second and third we played better. We didn’t give them much, but they took advantage of their scoring chances and we didn’t in the second and third and that was the big difference there.
We have to start better. They were all over us from the start. They were hungrier than us. We just have to get back to being hungry and take that into Detroit.
