Here's a sampling of what the Maple Leafs and Red Wings had to say following Saturday's game, a 3-2 Detroit win.
It was certainly pretty intense. They looked like they wanted it. They had a good first period and scored a couple of goals. We were kind of chasing the game for a little bit but I felt like we took over towards the end and came up a little short.
It was a clog-off out there. They didn’t give us anything, especially early. It was a real defensive game but we knew it was going to be like that. They weren’t going to give us anything offensively because they can’t afford to lose any games. It was a good hockey game. After a while it picked up a bit but we came up short.
The first (penalty) we’ve got to kill, that can’t go in. We had our opportunities but didn’t capitalize on them. In the end, we had some good looks but we didn’t score. They found a way to get it done.
Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill
I thought we did a good job in our start. I thought our first period was good. I liked the fact that we made it a two-goal cushion in the third. That allows you to make a mistake late and still win the hockey game. We haven’t done enough of that this year but I thought we did a good job of that tonight.
Red Wings defenceman Kyle Quincey
They played a very good, sound system game. Typical Babs (Babcock) team. We knew they were going to play like that. I think we did a good job of playing simple and burying our chances when we got them.
