Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf
spoke to media following Monday's outdoor practice. Here's what had to say...Leafs TV
How was it?
It was actually -- the ice was really good and I think for outdoor rinks that's got to be up there with the best of them. That's a pretty world class facility for an outdoor rink in the middle of a city. For us to be out here to be able to practice and see the fan turn out, that's impressive. It's cold today and they wrapped around the whole building. It's an honour to be out here to be able to practice in front of our fans outdoors, it's special to us as players. We enjoyed the day.
Is today a nice refresh after Saturday's loss?
We had a long flight to sit with that but that's part of being in pro sport and playing in this league is that you've got to move forward. Whether you've had a good game the night before or a game like we had where it was one we wanted to forget quickly, it's about moving forward. We had the day off yesterday, we got in pretty late on Saturday night, we had the day to refresh yesterday and we came back, a little bit of a lighter workload today in practice because it was outside. We'll have a good practice tomorrow and get ready for a big week for our team.
What does the loss of van Riemsdyk mean?
It's extremely disappointing, he's a big part of our team. He's had a real good year for us up front. I think the biggest thing for me is, when you lose a guy like JVR, he's so consistent. He brings it night-in and night-out, he's offensively extremely talented for a big guy and he can score. Injuries are part of the game and now it's an opportunity for someone else to step up. It's a big loss to our team.
