One Month To Go

by Adnan Virk / Toronto Maple Leafs
Justin Pogge is no longer a Maple Leaf. This doesn’t quite sadden me in the way that knowing that today is Robert DeNiro’s birthday and he hasn’t made a truly great film in 14 years with Heat.

Yes, Analyze This and Meet the Parents were amusing but we’re talking Bobby D whose at a different stature than most. Sadly the same couldn’t be said of young Pogge. When you have a goals against of over four in limited action with the Buds, this is not inspiring.

So it was only a matter of time until Brian Burke found a more reliable alternative and the Monster, aka Jonas Gustavsson, certainly comes armed with expectations of not only being a solid backup but also a man that can push Vesa Toskala in net to reach his previous standard of excellence before injuries and self-confidence were in cahoots against him last season.

I still wonder about this team’s lack of scoring depth and who is going to score for this team though. And who exactly will be sitting out on defence? Kaberle isn’t going anywhere according to Burke. Schenn’s a stud and the only untouchable on the roster in that previous dalliance with trying to acquire John Tavares. Francois Beauchemin and Mike Komisarek were signed to great acclaim and deservedly so. Jeff Finger’s making 3.5 mil, while Mike Van Ryn seems like a Burke staple. So that leaves Ian White, who admittedly could play forward and the recently acquired Garnet Exelby sitting on the bench.

I think the next move is to sign Craig Forrest and just attempt to win games 1-nil!
