Ondrus Assigned to Marlies

(March 8, 2006) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that forward Ben Ondrus has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Recalled yesterday by the Maple Leafs, he made his National Hockey League debut last night against the Montreal Canadiens and recorded two penalty minutes.

Ondrus, a 23-year-old native of Sherwood Park, Alberta has played in 53 games for the Marlies this season, collecting 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists) with 104 penalty minutes.  Ondrus is currently third in Marlies penalty minutes.  He played in two preseason games in 2005 for the Maple Leafs scoring one goal and adding four penalty minutes.

Ondrus signed with the Maple Leafs as an unrestricted free agent May 27, 2004.

The Marlies' next game will take place on Friday, March 10 when they host the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7:30 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum.
