TORONTO (Nov. 27, 2002) - Toronto Maple Leafs'defenseman Wade Belak has been suspended for two games, without pay, for an elbowing incident involving Washington Capitals defenseman Brendan Witt in NHL Game #319 on November 26, the National Hockey League announced today.
Belak was assessed a major penalty for elbowing at 18:10 of the second period.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Belak will forfeit $8,555.56. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Belak will miss Maple Leafs games November 29 at Philadelphia and November 30 against Buffalo. He will be eligible to return on December 3 against Tampa Bay.
