NHL suspends Tucker for two games

NEW YORK (March 22, 2002) -- The National Hockey League announced today that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Darcy Tucker has been suspended for two games, without pay, for a charging incident against Washington Capitals defenseman Sergei Gonchar in NHL Game #1048 on March 21.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Tucker will forfeit $13,659.80. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 10:51 of the third period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Tucker will miss the Maple Leafs' next two games, March 23 vs. Buffalo and March 25 at Philadelphia. He will be eligible to return on March 26 vs. Tampa Bay.
