NHL Investigating Pre-Game Incident Involving Avery
/ Toronto Maple Leafs
(TORONTO) - The NHL is looking into a pre-game incident Saturday between Sean Avery of the New York Rangers and Jason Blake and Darcy Tucker of the Toronto Maple Leafs, a source has told The Canadian Press.
Tucker acknowledged Avery's remarks without being specific at practice on Monday.
``He has no sense of class and you know, what goes around comes around in this game, eventually,'' Tucker told reporters.
The incident seemed to be sparked by Avery, who was yelling at Tucker before shoving Blake. Tucker then slashed the Rangers agitator and the two got face-to-face in a heated exchange.
Players from both teams ended up surrounding Tucker and Avery.
``It goes beyond just getting under guys' skin, I think (Avery) takes it to a personal level and that's what guys hate about him,'' Leafs enforcer Wade Belak told reporters at practice. ``I think it's sort of known you don't really start digging into people's personal lives.
``You know, call us bad hockey players or whatever but when you start bringing other people into it, that's definitely crossing the line.''
Tucker and Avery ended up fighting during the first period.
