New Leaders To Emerge For Leafs

by Joe Bowen / Toronto Maple Leafs
Cliff Fletcher’s rather large broom has completed its house cleaning.

The dispatching of Bryan McCabe to the Florida Panthers yesterday for Mike Van Ryn has effectively allowed this hockey club to turn a new page as its leadership group is concerned.

Attitude and atmosphere in a dressing room are commodities as important as talent when it comes to a hockey team. The  group that included Mats Sundin, Bryan McCabe, and Darcy Tucker and to a lesser extent, Wade Belak, and Andrew Raycroft controlled the dressing room and cultivated the attitude and atmosphere of the room. That will now change dramatically.

New leaders will emerge and much of the atmosphere in the early going will be directed by new head coach Ron Wilson and his experienced staff.  Expectations are not going to be set very high by the media and probably the fans but the players will certainly set them high enough in the dressing room.

I am looking forward to seeing this group in action.  I think their may be a surprise or two in the not too distant future that allows this team to gel rather quickly
