McDonald's, Leafs Team Up For Charities

(Oct. 03, 2003) -- McDonald's has teamed up with the Toronto Maple Leafs to participate in their annual calendar fundraising initiative to benefit local children's charities. 

On Friday, October 3rd, 2003, The 2003-04 Official McDonald's Toronto Maple Leafs Calendar will be available at over 350 participating McDonald's Restaurants across Ontario, CentreSports and kiosks at Air Canada Center. 

Calendars are $2.99 plus tax with $1.00 from each calendar sold going to charities that are dedicated to improving the quality of life of children.  More than 100,000 calendars will be printed, in the hopes of raising more than $100,000. 

This year, the funds raised from the sale of the calendars will benefit Ronald McDonald Houses in Toronto and Hamilton, the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund and Go Kids Go! The Leafs Fund.  Ronald McDonald Houses are homes away from home for children and their families fighting life threatening illnesses and chronic diseases. 

The NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund supports grassroots hockey programs around the world and the Go Kids Go! The Leafs Fund is the charitable arm of the Maple Leafs, committed to supporting children's charities and important community initiatives throughout Toronto.

This special limited edition calendar is sure to please all Leafs fans with its full-colour pictures and unique team and player statistics.  It also reflects the 2003-04 season's 'Leafs Nation' theme by featuring the national origins of various Maple Leafs including: Sundin, Domi, Mogilny, Fitzgerald, Belfour, Kaberle, Nolan, Roberts and Tucker.

In addition to calendars going on sale, full poster sized plaque mounted pictures from pages of the calendar will be autographed and sold on to benefit Go Kids Go! The Leafs Fund. Posters will go up for auction October 20, 2003.

The Toronto Maple Leafs calendar was first printed in 1998, and since then has raised over $400,000 for charity.  This is the first year that McDonald's has participated in the event.
