McCauley helps Leafs to third straight win

MONTREAL (AP) -- Alyn McCauley scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 15:10 left in the third period, to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night in an NHL preseason game.

McCauley scored late in the first period to give Toronto its first lead, then added his second of the game 4:50 into the third to make it 4-3.

Mikael Renberg scored against Jose Theodore with 3:20 left to send the Maple Leafs on to their second win in as many nights against the Canadiens.

Karel Pilar and Josh Holden also scored for Toronto (4-3-1).

Oleg Petrov scored two goals 5:38 apart in the second period to put Montreal up 3-2. Patrice Brisebois also scored and Saku Koivu had two assists for the Canadiens, who lost their second straight after winning their first six preseason games.

Maple Leafs center Travis Green left the game with a head injury in the second period after he was checked along the boards by rookie defenseman Mike Komisarek.
