David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the hockey club has signed Garrett Gamble
to a one-day contract.
Gamble, 11, was born in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan on May 24, 2003. Garrett eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. His all-time favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, as he loves Tyler Bozak, Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel.
In March of 2004, Garrett was diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA, (MPS IVA), or as it is also known, Morquio Syndrome. In short, this disease is caused by an absence, or malfunctioning of enzymes required to breakdown molecules that help build bone, cartilage, tendons, corneas, skin and connective tissue.
Garrett’s dream has always been to drop the puck at a Maple Leaf game and meet some of the players. Garrett has long dreamt of being able to take his Mom, Dad and three sisters to Toronto to see his favourite team play live. Today, he gets that opportunity.
The Maple Leafs will be in action at 7 p.m. tonight when they host the Ottawa Senators at Air Canada Centre. Garrett Gamble has been added to the team’s roster and will be in attendance for tonight’s game.
