(February 3, 2004) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday that they have recalled goaltender Mikael Tellqvist from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.
Tellqvist, 24, has appeared in five games for Toronto this season and has a record of 2-0-2 with a 2.51 goals against average. He made a season-high 29 saves to register his first win of the season October 23 at Phoenix. He also recorded the victory in his next start stopping 24 of 25 shots November 2 at Carolina. In addition, he has appeared in 16 games for St. John's and has a record of 7-8-1 with a 2.68 goals against average (one shutout).
Tellqvist has played eight career NHL games for Toronto compiling a record of 3-1-2 with a 2.57 goals against average.
The native of Sundbyberg, Sweden was Toronto's third choice, 70th overall in the 2000 Entry Draft. Tellqvist will wear sweater number 32.
