The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that defenceman Rinat Valiev has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL) while defenceman Morgan Rielly has been placed on the injured reserve list with an upper body injury.
Valiev, 22, has registered eight points (1 goal, 7 assists) in 29 games with the Marlies this season. During the 2016-17 season, the Nizhnekamsk, Russia native collected 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists) in 47 regular season games, while adding an assist in nine Calder Cup playoff games. Valiev made his NHL debut with Toronto during the 2015-16 season and appeared in 10 games for the club. He was originally selected by the Maple Leafs in the third round (68th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
The Maple Leafs return to action when they host the Colorado Avalanche tonight at Air Canada Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
