by Staff Writer / Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the team has recalled forwards Brendan Leipsic and Jeremy Morin from the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis. Defenceman Jared Cowen and forward Josh Leivo have been placed on injured reserve.

Leipsic, 21, has recorded 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) in 47 games with the Marlies this season. Leipsic was acquired by the Maple Leafs in a trade with Nashville on February 15, 2015 after the Predators selected him in the third round (89th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He has yet to make his NHL debut.

Morin, 24, has collected six points (two goals, four assists) in 11 games with the Marlies after a January 3 trade brought him to Toronto from Chicago, where he registered 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in 28 games with the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate. Morin has previously skated in 82 NHL games, recording 22 points (10 goals, 22 assists) with the Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Maple Leafs return to the ice tonight when they face the Canucks in Vancouver at 7 p.m. EST.
