The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has recalled forward Kasperi Kapanen and goaltender Garret Sparks from the Toronto Marlies (AHL). The recall of Sparks is on an emergency basis.

Kapanen, 20, has collected 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 43 games with the Marlies this season after recording 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 44 games with the AHL club in 2015-16. The Kuopio, Finland native was selected to represent the Marlies at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic but was unable to participate due to injury.
Kapanen was acquired by the Maple Leafs in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 1, 2015 after he was selected by Pittsburgh in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He appeared in nine NHL games with the Leafs in 2015-16.
Sparks, 23, owns a 18-7-0 record with a 2.08 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and five shutouts in 18 appearances with the Marlies this season. Sparks played in 17 NHL games with the Maple Leafs in 2015-16, posting a record of 6-9-1 with one shutout.
Sparks was selected by the Leafs in the seventh round (190th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
