Maple Leafs and Stars exchange defencemen

Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager and Head Coach Pat Quinn announced Wednesday evening that the hockey club has obtained defenceman Jyrki Lumme from the Dallas Stars in exchange for Dave Manson.


Playing in his first season with Dallas in 2001-02, Lumme, 35, appeared in 15 games and recorded one assist to go along with four penalty minutes. He joined the Stars in a June 23, 2001 trade from Phoenix where he spent the previous three seasons.

The native of Tampere, Finland is playing in his 14th professional season. He notched his first NHL goal in his first ever NHL game versus Edmonton on November 26, 1988 as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

Lumme is expected to join the Maple Leafs in Uniondale, New York on Thursday. Manson recorded one assist in 13 games while playing in his second season with Toronto in 2001-02.
