Pat Quinn, general manager and head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the hockey club has signed restricted free agent defenceman Tomas Kaberle to a multi-year contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Last season Kaberle established career-highs in assists (39), points (45), and penalty minutes (24-tie) while leading all Maple Leaf defencemen in goals (6), assists and points. He recorded four points (1g, 3a) in 11 post-season games. He collected the game-winning goal in the last minute of regulation time May 5 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final versus New Jersey.
Kaberle, 23, will be entering his fourth season with the Maple Leafs. He was Toronto's 13th choice, 204th overall, in the 1996 Entry Draft.
