Josh Leivo spoke to MapleLeafs.com on Friday about his recovery from an injury sustained last week in Edmonton and his play this season. Here's what he had to say...
How's the road back to game action coming along?
I'm feeling good now. I took that week off so now I'm just getting back into shape and getting ready to play.
Was it especially frustrating to pick up an injury when you had been playing so well?
For sure, it's frustrating but I know it's the way hockey is. It's an unfortunate play and an unlucky bounce but I'm feeling good now. Hopefully I can just keep it going.
With two goals in two games leading up to the injury, what was working for you prior to sitting out?
I think we were just working hard and we knew Babs needed a spark. We wanted to go out and give a good, hard shift. I had a couple of chances on the 2-on-1 and I just wanted to capitalize on it and that was it.
How has the past month been for you between your time with the Leafs, Marlies and the AHL All-Star Game?
It's a great experience being able to play up here. And I love going back down there [to the Marlies] and playing with the guys. It's a great atmosphere down there. The transfer from the AHL to the NHL here isn't that hard, I think they're both great groups of guys and I'm just excited to be the guy who they do call up. I'm going to make the most of what I can.
How much has the winning atmosphere in the Marlies helped you grow as a player this season?
For sure, there's no better feeling than winning when you're playing hockey so being down there, when you're coming up here, you're just trying to bring some positive vibes to the room. I thought we had been playing well up here so it's just an unfortunate bounce. I think the atmosphere has been pretty good up here but when you're winning there's no better feeling.
