Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Dave Nonis announced Thursday that the team has signed Colton Orr to a new two-year NHL contract.
Orr, 31, joined the Maple Leafs as a free agent on July 1, 2009. He played in 44 of 48 regular season games for Toronto this past season and collected four points (1 goal, 3 assists) while leading the NHL in penalty minutes with 155. Orr was ‘even or plus’ in 41 of his 44 appearances in 2012-13 and he played in all seven of the team’s playoff games against the Bruins in May.
The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba played his 400th career NHL game March 7, 2013 at Boston and he played the full 82-game schedule in consecutive seasons in 2008-09 with the Rangers and 2009-10 with the Maple Leafs. The 1,000th penalty minute of his 10-year career came March 21, 2013 at Buffalo.
He was originally signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent on September 19, 2001 and he was claimed on waivers by New York on November 29, 2005.
