(MONTREAL) --The Toronto Maple Leafs avenged their only loss of the tournament (Montreal) by defeating the Canadiens 5-3 on September 14 to win the rookie tournament. Montreal opened the scoring in the first period and Toronto appeared to tie the game later in the frame but the goal was disallowed.

Matt Hubbauer scored his fifth goal of the tournament to tie the game in the second period. Toronto scored 29 seconds into the third period on a goal by Scott May, but Montreal tied the game minutes later.

Toronto again took the lead when David Turon registered his first goal of the tournament, but Montreal tied the game again.
