Leafs recall Pilar

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday that defenceman Karel Pilar has been recalled from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.

Pilar, 24, has played in nine games with Toronto this season and has two assists with four penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 52 games with St. John's and has 24 points (ten goals, 14 assists) with 26 minutes in penalties. The native of Prague in the Czech Republic was Toronto's second choice, 39th overall in the 2001 Entry Draft.

Pilar will replace defenceman Aki Berg who is suffering from the flu.
