The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday that defenceman Karel Pilar has been recalled from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.
Pilar, 24, has played 52 games with St. John's this season and has 24 points (ten goals, 14 assists) with 26 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in three games for Toronto and has one assist with four minutes in penalties. Pilar made his NHL debut January 25 at Vancouver and collected his first NHL point January 30 at Atlanta. The native of Prague in the Czech Republic represented his country at the 2001 World Championships and won a Gold Medal. He was Toronto's second choice, 39th overall in the 2001 Entry Draft. Pilar will wear sweater number 29.
