by Staff Writer / Toronto Maple Leafs

Dave Nonis, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has recalled defenceman Jake Gardiner today from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Gardiner joined the Maple Leafs at this morning’s skate as the team prepares to play the Lightning at Air Canada Centre tonight at 7 p.m.

Gardiner, 22, has registered 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) with 12 penalty minutes in 43 games for the Marlies in 2012-13. The 6-2, 184-pound defenceman played two games for the Leafs earlier this season (January 23 & 24) and recorded four shots on goal.
