Leafs Recall Hedin From St. John's

(Jan. 8, 2004) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that they have recalled defenceman Pierre Hedin from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.

Hedin, 25, has played 38 games for St. John's this season collecting 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) with four penalty minutes. He ranks first among team defencemen in goals, second in assists and second in points. Hedin represented Sweden at the 2002 World Championships and was named as a First Team All-Star at the 1998 World Junior Championships.

The native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden was Toronto's eighth choice, 239th overall, in 1999 Entry Draft. Hedin will wear sweater number 3.
