Leafs re-assign Eriksson and Tellqvist

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday that defenceman Anders Eriksson and goaltender Mikael Tellqvist have been re-assigned to the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.


Eriksson, 27, has played 34 games with Toronto this season and has two assists with 12 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 25 games for St. John's and has ten points (four goals, six assists) with 14 penalty minutes. The native of Bollnas, Sweden has 103 points (14 goals, 89 assists) with 138 penalty minutes in 342 career NHL games.

Tellqvist, 21, has played in 28 games for St. John's this season and has a record of 8-11-6 with a 3.12 goals against average. He appeared in five preseason games with Toronto and was also selected to the 2002 Swedish Olympic team. The native of Sundbyberg, Sweden was Toronto's third choice, 70th overall in the 2000 Entry Draft.

The St. John's Maple Leafs will play the first game of a best-of-three preliminary round playoff series against the Providence Bruins Wednesday night at Air Canada Centre. Start time is 7:30 pm. You can still purchase tickets for the contest or watch it on Leafs TV.
