(TORONTO) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday afternoon that defenceman Staffan Kronwall has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. In addition, defenceman Jay Harrison will be joining the Marlies on a conditioning stint.

Kronwall appeared in two preseason games in September and has not played in a regular season game in 2006-07 due to an ankle injury sustained September 22 against Montreal.  Last season in the regular season, he appeared in 34 games as a rookie with the Maple Leafs and 16 with the Marlies.

Harrison has played in five games for the Maple Leafs this season. He has not played in the past seven games.
