The Maple Leafs held an optional morning skate as they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Richard Panik was among the Leafs to skate. It will be the first time since being waived in early October that Panik will take on his former team.
“It was sad when I left,” Panik recalled. “The new teammates have brought me in and I’m really happy to be here.”
Panik was drafted by Tampa in 2009, spending the last five years in the Lightning organization before the Leafs claimed him off waivers on October 9th.
Jonathan Bernier is expected to start in goal for the Maple Leafs. In two games against Tampa, Bernier has won both games (1.50 GAA and .961 save percentage).
Ben Bishop is expected to start for Tampa.
Bernier, along with Phil Kessel, Tyler Bozak, Dion Phaneuf, James van Riemsdyk, Roman Polak, and David Clarkson did not skate.
Joffrey Lupul (hand), David Booth (foot) and Brandon Kozun (ankle) took part in today’s skate. None of the three are available to the Leafs tonight. Lupul and Booth are nearing a return while head coach Randy Carlyle has suggested that Kozun is further away from a return than the other two.
