Leafs Headed To The Island

GAME: Toronto Maple Leafs (1-1-2-0) at New York Islanders (2-1-1-0).

TIME: Monday, 7 p.m. EDT.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders renew their heated rivalry as they face off for the first time this season at Nassau Coliseum.

There has been bad blood between the Maple Leafs and Islanders since Darcy Tucker's questionable hit on Islanders captain Michael Peca in the first round of the 2002 playoffs. Peca was lost for the rest of the playoffs and half of last season with an ACL injury, and Toronto went on to eliminate the Islanders by winning their best-of-seven series 4-3.

The Maple Leafs, who went 2-1-1 against the Islanders in 2002-03, will be looking for their second win of the season Monday.

Ric Jackman scored a power-play goal in the first period to lead Toronto to a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Jackman's goal was the Maple Leafs' second with the man advantage this season, and just their fifth overall in four games.

Ed Belfour earned his 66th career shutout, tying Patrick Roy for 11th place on the career list. He leads all active goalies and is one behind Roy Worters for 10th.

Maple Leafs right wing Alexander Mogilny has missed two straight games because of a sore groin and is questionable for Monday's matchup.

The Islanders have five points in four games.

Mariusz Czerkawski scored his third goal of the season and set up Oleg Kvasha's power-play game-winner Saturday as New York beat the Florida Panthers 2-1.

Playing on a line with Kvasha and center Alexei Yashin seems to have had a positive effect on Czerkawski.

"Oly has quickness and size, and Yash is strong and is a great playmaker," Czerkawski said. "I just try to fit in somewhere in between."
