The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the team has acquired the Colorado Avalanche’s fourth-round selection in the 2016 Entry Draft and forward Colin Smith in exchange for forward Shawn Matthias.
Smith, 22, has registered 13 goals and 21 assists in 54 games with Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, this season. In 2013, he was named to the Western Hockey League First All-Star Team after finishing fourth overall in league scoring with 106 points in 72 games with Kamloops. The Edmonton native, who skated in one NHL game with Colorado in 2014-15, was originally selected by the Avalanche in the seventh round (192nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
The Maple Leafs return to the ice Tuesday when they host the Nashville Predators at Air Canada Centre at 7:30 p.m. EST.
