Leafs beat Red Wings in Hamilton

HAMILTON, Ontario (AP) -- Paul Healey broke a tie with a power-play goal in the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 in an exhibition game Saturday night.

Aaron Gavey and 19-year-old defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo also scored and Trevor Kidd made 24 saves to help Toronto improve to 2-3-1 in the preseason.

Former Toronto player Derek King, now a player-assistant coach with Detroit's American Hockey League farm team in Grand Rapids, Mich., scored for the Red Wings (4-1).

Former Maple Leafs goalie Curtis Joseph was not in uniform for Detroit after playing Friday night in the Red Wings' 8-2 victory over Dallas in Detroit.
