(September 2, 2004) -- John Ferguson, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that they have agreed to an affiliation with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the East Coast Hockey League for the 2004-05 season.
"We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the Ice Pilots," said Ferguson. "As an organization we are confident that our young players will be able to continue their development with the Pensacola hockey club."
The Ice Pilots will begin their 72-game regular season and first with former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Dave Farrish as their head coach on October 23.
The team, which is owned by former National Hockey League player Tim Kerr, is one of 28 teams in the ECHL and will compete in the American Conference of the South Division. Last season the team posted a record of 40 wins, 23 losses and nine ties.
