Lady Leafs Make A Visit to SickKids

by Staff Writer / Toronto Maple Leafs

On Monday, December 16th, a few of the Lady Leafs took time out of their busy schedules to visit a place close to their hearts – SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

Lady Leafs who took part in the visit were: Canadian actress and wife of Leafs captain Dion Phanuef, Elisha Cuthbert; goalie James Reimer’s wife, April Reimer; and Cody Franson’s girlfriend Mandi Salmond. The ladies chatted happily and decorated gingerbread men with patients at the hospital.

Leafs defenseman Colton Orr and his wife Sabrina also made a great team with children at the hospital. Upon hearing Sabrina would be coming to SickKids, Colton requested to be a part of the visit as well.

Mandy Maresky looked on as her son decorated and mingled with the Orrs and the other Lady Leafs.

“He’s having a great time - he’s loving it,” said Maresky. “He’s been here for six weeks so, it’s exciting for him – he lives for hockey.”

April Reimer and Elisha Cuthbert showed off their creativity by spending time with each child to decorate their cookies.

“I really enjoy coming to SickKids and making gingerbreads with the kids just because it gives them a little bit of a break, a time to enjoy the season,” Reimer said. “It’s a good cause and seeing their faces light up is the best thing in the world this time of years.”

Cuthbert highlighted the value and impact of spending time in the community in Toronto, saying, “We like to get together and do things for the city and especially when it comes to charity. SickKids, we’ve been doing for the last three years since I’ve been here. It’s so much fun because we get to do really creative things like decorating cookies on Valentine’s Day and at Christmas time we sometimes do ordainments. It’s creative and fun, gets the kids out and it’s nice to do.”
