The Maple Leafs are in South Florida tonight to take on the Florida Panthers. Here are the Leafs three keys to a win.
Soak it in, relax
With the trade deadline passed, there should be some sense of relief. No longer on the minds of every Leaf is the thought of being moved and now they can focus at the task at hand. Time for the players who want to stick around to show themselves well. The Leafs are winless in their last 16 road games and the offence has to get going. The Leafs have not scored a goal away from Air Canada Centre in 162:07.
The Maple Leafs have to be sharp between the pipes, whether it’s Jonathan Bernier or James Reimer. The Panthers have scored nine goals in their last two games. Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist in his last game and scored a goal in his last game against Toronto, while playing for the New Jersey Devils. The Panthers have outscored the Leafs 9-6 in two victories over Toronto and will be looking for their third win of the season series.
Better start needed
The Maple Leafs gave up the first goal just 33 seconds into their 4-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Sunday. A better start is needed, especially against the Panthers team that is desperate for every point they can get. Florida sits two points back of Boston for the final wild card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
