Nazem Kadri’s first stint in the NHL is over after 17 games.
The Leafs returned Kadri to their American Hockey League affiliate but even though he is down, he won’t be on display for Marlies fans.
Kadri will begin a two game suspension and the team goes on a nine-day road trip on the day he would be scheduled to return.
The 20-year-old Kadri went goalless in 17 games with the Maple Leafs but had six assists and flashed moments of top-end vision and skill. But his inexperience showed in his defensive play and the fact that he could not break through to score his first goal was a longstanding negative.
Kadri was a healthy scratch for two games before returning to the lineup December 26.
The London native was the Leafs first choice, seventh overall in the 2009 draft.
