Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk spoke to the media following Wednesday's practice. Here's what he had to say...
On the reasons behind the club's recent success:
I think we've been playing a lot smarter, we haven't been shooting ourselves in the foot as much. We definitely cut down on turnovers and mistakes within our structure. We have a lot of new faces from last year's team and it's starting to come together nicely. We obviously have a long way to go, we're by no means satisfied. There are a lot more games to be played and we want to keep getting better every day.
On the play which set up Bozak's goal:
That's what I always want to do when I get a chance is take it right to the front of the net and create havoc. I was able to get in there and fire it on net. Bozie made a great play to get to a quiet area and found a way to put it in.
On the level of belief in the room:
We've always been a confident group and confident in ourselves in here. Obviously we had to fight back from a little bit of adversity at the beginning of the year and there's always going to be adversity throughout a long season. It's usually how you respond to that which tells you what kind of year you're going to have. We've responded pretty well and we want to continue to do that and get better.
On trying to move up the standings out of the wildcard:
We're worried about ourselves one day at a time, one game at a time. Having a good practice, having a good game, if we keep playing the right way good things will happen.
On the team taking games one at a time:
That's what we're trained to do as professional athletes. You worry about the next game, the next practice and take things one day at a time because things can change very quickly. It's not that hard to do, especially if you're played a few years you realize that's the way things go. You have to be prepared to go each and every day.
On the power play:
It has been good, we've been moving the puck around well, getting some momentum, creating some chances. That's what we want to do on our power play is get some shots, get some scoring chances and go from there.
