Opening night Wednesday night and for the 25th time I am a part of a Maple Leaf Hockey season. Seems like only yesterday that I took a long cab ride down West Madision Street in Chicago to do my first Leaf game at the Old Chicago Stadium.
My nerves were certainly jumping that night! Over 2,100 games have followed with a lot of great memories, bitter defeats and marvellous victories.
No big prize yet but it will happen and sooner than latter I know. Len Bramson of Telemedia Broadcasting gave me my big opportunity after hearing my audition tape from Nova Scotia where I was doing the Voyageurs AHL games.
Through the years I have worked with some marvellous broadcast partners, Like Gary Monahan, Vic Hadfield, Bill Watters, Brad Selwood,Jim Peplinski, Scotty Bowman, Mickey Redman, Gord Stellick, Harry Neale and Jimmy Ralph. I have had the pleasure of working with Mark Askin the best hockey producer in the world and some marvellous technicians and engineers who make us look and sound terrific.
My family has put up with me being away for some very important dates and sporting events in their lives, always a difficult time as they grow into manhood. But it is the fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs who are so special. We meet them in every corner of the league and the world. No hockey team has this kind of loyal and enthusiastic following.
Thank you for inviting me into your homes and automobiles over these past 25 years it has been an honour and a pleasure.
