Leafs forward Michael Grabner
spoke with MapleLeafs.com following Tuesday's practice. Here's what he had to say...
How have you found the adjustment to life as a Maple Leaf?
Good, it's a great place to play. Since I got here the guys were great, they've welcomed me and I felt comfortable right away. It's been a great experience so far.
How has that comfort level come along on the ice with the coaches and their role for you?
Well, whatever they want me to do I'll try to do to the best of my ability. I've been killing penalties a lot the last five or six years. I enjoy it. That's one of my bigger roles here and I'm trying to work on that. Hopefully I can chip in some offence too.
You've generated more and more scoring chances recently, do you feel the production will come soon?
Yeah, I hope so. I think as long as you get chances it's always positive. I've just got to get that first one out of the way and then hopefully it lets you play a little more relaxed, gets you some confidence. As long as the team is winning and we're doing something out there to contribute I think that is the biggest thing.
What has it been like playing next to Froese since he made his debut?
It's nice to play with a guy like that, obviously there's a lot of motivation and adrenaline going since he's come in here. He is really good on faceoffs so it's nice to start with the puck and he's been having some solid games for us. I've killed with him a couple of times and try to talk to him a lot there just to figure stuff out. It's easy when you know where the other guy is going and you're on the same page. I think he has been really good and it's been a lot of fun playing with him.
As a veteran, how do you get prepared for a busy week ahead?
I think I prefer it actually. I don't like having so many days off, sometimes it's good to get days off when your team is struggling or you need to work on some stuff but when you're on a roll you just want to get games in and get some wins. We had a good start yesterday and now we've got to build off that. It's nice to have a lot of games coming up where you can just keep the momentum going hopefully.
