Gerber Automatically Suspended Three Games

by Staff Writer / Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Gerber has been automatically suspended for three games, without pay, as a result of an abuse of official incident in NHL Game #1088 against the Washington Capitals, the National Hockey League announced today.

The suspension is a result of Rule 41.4 - Category llI.  The rule states: “Any player or goalkeeper who, by his actions, physically threatens an official by shooting the puck at or in the general direction of an official shall be suspended for not less than three (3) games.”

The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Gerber will miss Friday’s game at Buffalo, March 28 against Boston and April 1 against Philadelphia.  He will be eligible to return April 3 when the Leafs play the Flyers in Philadelphia.
