Bowen: Despite Being Wrong, Youth Being Youth

by Joe Bowen / Toronto Maple Leafs
I certainly want to thank the Toronto Sun for breaking the Jiri Tlusty story and photos this week. It was certainly something I know I couldn’t live without. Gosh, I sure am glad I went through my adolescent years without the internet and cell phone picture taking. I cant imagine what might be on the web pages now if I had.

It certainly brings back some memories of stories of other young men doing something wrong yet harmless in their youth. Many will remember two prominent members of George Armstrong’s Toronto Marlboros who after winning the Memorial Cup were arrested for “streaking” through Ontario Place! Both went on to pro hockey careers and have become excellent coaches.

I remember a Sudbury Wolves bus trip that got stuck on the Burlington Skyway Bridge because of an accident.  During the delay a few players took goalie pads outside and lay down on them on the pavement while other players took turns providing mock first aid. The bus was later pulled over by police because some motorist thought it was actually an emergency. A number of future NHL’ers got their hands slapped over that.

They say let he with no sin cast the first stone. Isn't it great that a number of columnists and editors are alone in that group in Toronto.
