We had our first regular season edition last night of Gate 5 Live. Everyone was upbeat and optimistic, although I think that was primarily due to being stuffed with poutine dogs from Burkie’s Dog House.
Brian Burke told the story on the Fan590 of how a gourmet hot dog stand featuring over a dozen selections first came about. After being approached by chef Robert Bartley, Burke was apprehensive pointing out that all GM’s eventually get canned and wouldn’t that be a pain to have to rename a food stand in addition to taking down his picture. But the culinary department didn’t see it being an issue and thus, at 5:08 p.m. yesterday you had Brian Burke taking pictures with a young kid who was the beneficiary of being the first official customer.
Which gets me thinking-what would we do for Bryan Colangelo whose slim physique implies he’s not much of a hot dog guy. Perhaps grilled chicken and salads or some smoked salmon?
Nice of Mo Johnston to stop by as well. He told me that he truly believes TFC will make the playoffs for the first time in their three year history because of how well they play at home and with two winnable games coming up in San Jose and Real Salt Lake plus a road finale against the team with the worst record in the MLS, New York.
Liz West also asked him why all soccer players are so good-looking in her opinion. Mo didn’t have a true explanation other than to proudly point out he himself was a former star on the pitch for Celtic and Rangers back in the 80’s!
As for getting grass at BMO field, the Toronto city countil vote was crucial. A couple of more steps to go through but it looks positive that TFC, Mo and especially the players will get what they’ve been hoping for and deserve. RAPTORS
Make sure you watch Raptors Today for more from training camp where Matt Devlin has been chatting up all the guys and Sherm’s been analyzing what’s going to be some of the keys.
First intrasquad game Saturday after some smaller drills and film study this week and it’s crazy to think we’re just four days away from their first game with the 76ers in London, Ontario which of course you can see on Raptors NBA TV. AND OTHER STUFF ON MY MIND
I’m still rocked by this news about Letterman being the victim of an extortion attempt. Always been a big fan of Dave and his Joaquin Phoenix interview this year showed that even though he’s mellowed, he can still be as witty and caustic as the young kids on the block. The man’s private life is his own business-just give us the funny Dave!
