The Maple Leafs had numerous chances to pick up a much needed road win but they ran into a hot goalie in Tim Thomas. The veteran netminder made huge saves when he was called on.
The Bruins had two glorious chances to win in regulation but Marc Savard hit the post and Milan Lucic put his shot wide. After a scoreless overtime, Miro Satan scored the winner on a nifty move on J.S. Giguere. .
Average age for the Maple Leafs which is the youngest in the NHL.
Last win at home for the Bruins before Thursday's victory.
Hits between the two teams.
1st Star Tim Thomas
2nd Star Steve Begin
3rd Star Miro Satan
Tim Thomas was a huge difference maker on this night. It was expected that Tuukka Rask would get the start but Thomas was brilliant Thursday.
After Viktor Stalberg had tied the game at 1-1, Thomas stopped Phil Kessel on a breakway late in the first. He would also go on to turn aside Nikolai Kulemin in the second and Stalberg in the third. Thomas finished the night in style by being perfect in the shootout.
Colton Orr is on the Leafs to stick up for his teammates and that is what he did Thursday. Orr dropped the gloves in the first period with rugged Bruins forward Milan Lucic who was cut open by one of Orr's right hands.
Orr saw only 7:05 of ice-time but he had two hits, one shot and after Wayne Primeau was hit by Steve Begin, Orr responded and went after Begin where he took down another Bruin forward.
With the recent trades of Alexei Ponikarovsky and Lee Stempniak, the Leafs traded away 33 goals and they will need more players to make up that difference.
Against the Bruins, the Leafs got goals from Stalberg and Tyler Bozak, two players the Leafs will count on to score. In the two post Olympic games, the Leafs have scored three goals while allowing eight.
Ron Wilson's on the effort of his team against Boston::
"I couldn't ask for more from the guys. We had some great chances - three or four breakaways. I tip my hat to Tim Thomas; he made some huge saves for them"
