NEW EDUCATIONAL BOOK OFFERS A FAMILY TOUR OF DOWNTOWN TAMPA
TAMPA BAY - The Lightning Foundation, University Community Health and the Tampa Downtown Partnership have joined forces to create an educational book that encourages children, families and visitors to explore downtown Tampa.
A news conference and kick-off celebration for “ThunderBug's Street Hockey Tour - Downtown Tampa” will be held on Tuesday, November 13, at 11 a.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum’s XO VIP Club. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Tampa Bay Lightning & St. Pete Times Forum President Ron Campbell will be among those in attendance. Six children from Rampello Downtown Partnership School will also attend to unveil a scale model of one of the sites featured in the book.
Eleven elementary schools will receive a book at no cost for all of their fourth- and fifth-grade students. University Community Health, Tampa Downtown Partnership and the Lightning Foundation have underwritten this gift for more than 2,000 students. The remaining 1,500 copies of the book will be given to the downtown partners featured in the book and sold at Lightning Foundation tables during Lightning home games.
This guidebook, presented by University Community Health, is an illustrated, interactive, fast-paced tour of downtown Tampa sites. The author, Robin Gonzalez, and graphic designer, Peter Bajohr from Pop Design, have created a piece that all children, parents and visitors will enjoy. Teachers will find many ways to integrate reading, writing, art and math activities into their daily curriculum using the book.
“We appreciate the support from our good friends at UCH and coordination with the Tampa Downtown Partnership, but I'm again amazed at the tireless work of Nancy Crane, the Lightning Foundation, and friends of the Lightning like Robin Gonzalez, who discover partnerships to find creative ways give back to our community while also promoting Tampa Bay as a tremendous place to live, work, and play,” Campbell said.
“For almost 7 years, UCH as been a proud partner with the Tampa Bay Lightning,” said Steve Ramsour, Corporate Director of Business Development for University Community Health. “As Presenting Sponsor of ‘ThunderBug’s Street Hockey Tour - Downtown Tampa,’ we are excited to kick off this educational guidebook for children, their families and visitors to Tampa Bay.
