TORTORELLA WELCOMES KIDS FROM THE CHILDREN'S HOME, INC. AND THE CHILD ABUSE COUNCIL'S CHILD CARE PROGRAMS TO THE ST. PETE TIMES FORUM
/ Tampa Bay Lightning
For the second consecutive year, Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella, his wife, Christine, and their children invited kids from The Children's Home, Inc. and The Child Abuse Council's Child Care Program to the St. Pete Times Forum for a day of street hockey, games, food and arts and crafts. Fifty children are participated at the event on June 9.
The day began at 9:45 a.m. with street hockey led by the Tortorellas, other Lightning coaching staff and the Lightning Fan Development Department. The children moved to Shots restaurant at 11:30 for a cookout and photos with the Tortorellas. A new addition to the program this year was the participation of The Arts Center, giving the children the opportunity to try unique arts and crafts under the direction of staff from the St. Petersburg-based center that has helped enrich the community for more than 80 years.
The John Tortorella Fishing Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, September 9, will support The Children's Home, Inc. and The Child Abuse Council. Additionally, in 2004 the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation pledged $100,000 of support for three years to fund Baby Bungalow, an early childhood resource center of the Child Abuse Council.
