Tampa Bay, FL (November 19, 2007) The Tampa Bay Lightning players’ wives have a special place in their hearts for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay.  On Tuesday, November 20th from 5–7 pm, McDonald’s and the players’ wives are hosting a dinner in honor of World Children’s Day, an annual global fundraiser for children celebrated in more than 100 countries. The Lightning ladies will prepare a delicious menu for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, a home-away-from-home for families of pediatric patients in area hospitals.

Filling the evening with warmth and fun, are a host of Lightning ladies including, Mary Jo Denis, Karine Roy, Jodi Taylor, Kate Sullivan, Paula Serbus, Chris Tortorella and Andreanna Lawson. Joined by Ronald McDonald® and the Lightning’s own ThunderBug, the evening’s hosts simply hope to bring smiles to the special families in residence.

This year, McDonald’s is recognizing th
e 6th anniversary for World Children’s Day.  Funds raised benefit RMHC and local children’s causes in communities around the world. Since the program’s inception in 2002, World Children’s Day efforts have raised over $100 million globally.

In 2006, Tampa Bay raised over $77,000 for World Children’s Day efforts.

“My family has benefited personally from the RMH,” said Jodi Taylor. “When our nephew Nick was sick, it gave my sister and her husband a place where they could rest and regroup.  I'll never forget walking over there with my sister and just watching her make a cup of tea. Those little things are just the bit of what the Ronald McDonald House offers.  When your child is ill you focus solely on your child and only them. The RMH allows you to do just that. Parents and siblings are given a home-away-from-home when they need it the most.”
