It seems a bit odd that it’s mid February and today is the Lightning's first trip to Buffalo, but I guess that's the way the schedule goes. The pilot on the Lightning’s team charter just announced that it's 21 degrees with scattered snow showers in Buffalo, which will be a little tough to handle considering the beautiful weather in Tampa today.
(**UPDATE**) Upon landing, the “scattered snow showers” became a blizzard with the snow blowing sideways. Awesome.
A lot of people (myself included) like to use Buffalo in the winter as the example when discussing what is not fun about traveling with a hockey team, but I've heard many people, including Dave Andreychuk and Craig Ramsay, rave about what a great place it is to live and raise a family. Keep in mind, however, that they're referring to the suburbs and not the downtown, which seems to be the city that time forgot.
Our team hotel in Buffalo has made some strides in recent years (internet, in-room coffee makers), but it still has “pet” rats the bellmen feed apple cores to that hang around by the front doors, and bring your winter coat and hat if you’re planning to look for a Starbucks nearby because you’re going to be walking for awhile.
Anyhow, that’s enough time spent knocking Buffalo; I’ll provide another update after the morning skate tomorrow.
