First of all, congratulations to Martin and Heather St. Louis, who welcomed their third son into the world yesterday. Mason Normand St. Louis was born at 12;58 p.m., joining brothers Ryan and Lucas in the St. Louis household. Mom and baby are doing fine.
Daddy St. Louis was back on the ice with his teammates for a 50-minute workout at the St. Pete Times Forum today. Afterward, John Tortorella was straightforward in his belief that the Lightning can catch the other teams in the Southeast Division. Nine points separate the Lightning and the Division-leading Thrashers.
"I want our players to see the standings right now," Tortorella said. "I don't need to explain it; look at them."
Asked if off-ice distractions might be playing a part in the team's struggles, Tortorella wouldn't make excuses.
"We can talk about all different things but its my responsibility to get this team hrough the tough waters," he said. "It all falls on me."
After practice the team headed to Tampa International for the flight to Pittsburgh where, of course, it's snowing. At least the team hotel is home to the top seafood restaurant in town.
